Her friends were being murdered in front of her and it read like she didn’t care. She was more focused on becoming the “Final Girl” then anything else. Because at this point, we know he’s just #SomeGuy, I’m sat there not caring about what’s happening and just wondering how the hell he smuggled piranha’s and a goddamn horse without anybody realising!!! * SPOILERS* Instead of brutal murders, we get stupid excuses for scare tactics like Piranhas in a Bathtub and a miniature horse running through the house. This then opens the book up to so many plot-holes because how is the regular dude getting here, there and everywhere so fast? And how is he surviving everything they’re throwing at him,įrom there I absolutely hated how wacky the book became. All of that though, is immediately undermined when we find out straight away that he’s just some dude wearing a ton of protective gear.Īll of that mystery, intrigue and terror is sucked right out of the character. I thought to start with, Lisa Springer did a great job at making this clown feel creepy, with his mannerisms and “clown antics”, I legit had goosebumps. This all sounds so promising, but it just got so stupid!!! The host of the party, and our main character, hires a “killer clown” as entertainment but get’s more than she bargains for when this killer clown lives up to it’s name and starts literally killing her guests. There’s No Way I’d Die First follows a group of popular students at a elite Halloween party. I was on the hunt for YA slasher books, reminiscent of the Scream series and I was sure this book was going to itch that scratch in my brain. So yeah this book right here is my probably my worst book of the year. There’s No Way I’d Die First by Lisa SpringerĮrm. In summary: this was a 3 star read for me, which again, not a bad thing, but it didn’t have that lasting, and emotional impact that The Way I Used to Be has on me, which was a let down. There was also a specific moment between Josh and Eden, it’s been months since I read this book so I can’t remember the specifics, but yeah it made me side-eye the characters and the book. Nothing about this book in and of itself grabbed hold of me. I couldn’t shake the feeling while I was reading that … I only cared because I cared for the characters in the first book. But still something about this book missed the mark. I also thought Amber Smith did a good job at highlighting the battles a survivor has to go through even years later, nothing was written with rose coloured glasses, Eden’s healing process wasn’t easy and linear. I loved that her an Josh got that second chance, and that we got chapters in Josh’s POV. I enjoyed seeing Eden thrive and see her heal after the hell she went through in The Way I Used to Be. There was honestly so much about this book that I did like. That excitement was doubled when I was accepted for an ARC which I read almost immediately. I never felt like it needed a sequel, but when I found out Eden’s story was continuing with The Way I Am Now I’ll admit, I was excited, especially because it was said to be focusing on Eden and Josh’s relationship. I think it’s such a poignant and emotional book that follows Eden through her four years of high school after being sexually assaulted by her brothers best friend. I am a huge fan of The Way I Used To Be by Amber Smith. The first book on this list and my heart is in pieces already □
